How Botox® & other neurotoxins work
Many wrinkles are caused by movement. Every time you frown or smile, small muscles fold the skin in the same place, and over the years those folds become lines that stay even when your face is at rest.
Botox® Cosmetic and Jeuveau® are purified proteins that temporarily relax the specific muscles they are placed in. When those muscles stop pulling as hard, the skin above them smooths out. Nearby muscles keep working normally, so you can still smile, laugh and show expression.

Botox® Cosmetic is FDA-approved for temporary improvement of:
Frown lines (the "11s" between the eyebrows)
Crow's feet (lines at the outer corners of the eyes)

Treatment. A very fine needle places small amounts at each point. Most patients describe a brief pinch.
Follow-up. We invite you back in about 2 weeks to check your result and make any small adjustments.
Pricing
Botox® Cosmetic is $12 per unit. Most people need 20–60 units, depending on the areas treated. Jeuveau® is also priced per unit, and your price will be quoted at your consultation. Your total depends on the areas treated and your muscle strength, and you will know your dose and price before treatment.

Does it hurt?
Most people feel a quick pinch. Ice can be used for comfort.
Will I look frozen?
Not with a conservative, individualized dose. You should still look expressive, just less tired or tense.
How long does it last?
Botox® Cosmetic and Jeuveau® typically last 3 to 4 months. With regular treatment, some patients find results last a little longer.
Who should not have Botox® Cosmetic?
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or have an infection at the injection site. Dr. Boican reviews this at your consultation.
What are the possible side effects?
Mild redness, swelling or small bruises at injection points are common and short-lived. Less commonly, headache or a temporary heavy or drooping brow or eyelid can occur.
