Medical weight management in Sarasota, supervised by an internist

If you have worked hard at diet and exercise and the scale still will not move, you are not alone, and it is not a lack of willpower. Weight is shaped by hormones, appetite signals, genetics and metabolism. GLP-1 medications work on those signals directly, and for many people they finally make progress possible.

At SculptMaxx MD, weight management is led by Dr. Alice Boican, a board-certified internal medicine physician. That matters, because weight is connected to blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and more.

What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 is a hormone your gut releases after you eat. It tells your brain you are full, slows how quickly your stomach empties and helps regulate blood sugar. GLP-1 medications mimic this hormone. Tirzepatide also acts on a second hormone, GIP.

The result: you feel satisfied with smaller portions, cravings quiet down, and eating less becomes more manageable. The best known are semaglutide (the medicine in Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (the medicine in Zepbound®), both FDA-approved for chronic weight management in eligible adults. SculptMaxx MD prescribes FDA-approved GLP-1 medications only.

Who may be a candidate

FDA-approved GLP-1 weight-loss medications are generally for adults with:

  • A BMI of 30 or higher, or

  • A BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol

They are not right for everyone. For example, people with a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers, or who are pregnant, should not use them. Dr. Boican determines candidacy at your consultation.

Potential benefits

  • Meaningful, gradual weight loss when combined with healthier eating and activity

  • Less hunger and fewer cravings between meals

  • Improvements that often follow weight loss, such as in blood sugar, blood pressure and energy

  • A structured program with regular physician check-ins

What to expect

  1. Consultation and history. Your health, medications, past weight-loss attempts and goals.

  2. Lab work. Baseline labs help confirm the medication is safe for you and give a starting point to measure progress.

  3. Starting low. Medication begins at a low dose and increases slowly, which helps limit side effects such as nausea.

  4. Regular follow-ups. Weight, side effects, nutrition and dose are reviewed at every check-in.

  5. A long-term plan. We also discuss protein, strength training and what happens when you reach your goal.

Pricing

All weight-management services are self-pay; SculptMaxx MD does not bill insurance. The initial consultation is $200. Your medication is prescribed as a 3-month supply, filled by a participating pharmacy and paid to the pharmacy separately. Lab fees are also separate. A quarterly evaluation, at $180 per visit, is required to renew your prescription.

Why choose Dr. Boican for weight management

Unlike online programs that send medication after a questionnaire, SculptMaxx MD provides an in-person physician evaluation, lab review and ongoing monitoring by a doctor who manages these same conditions in hospital medicine.

Your treatment is performed by a physician, not delegated. At SculptMaxx MD, Dr. Alice Boican personally evaluates every patient and performs every treatment. She is a board-certified internal medicine physician (American Board of Internal Medicine), licensed in Florida, and completed her residency at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital. She also practices hospital medicine, caring for patients whose health depends on careful judgment and precise dosing.

What that means for you:

  • A medical history that is actually read and understood. Medications, conditions and past reactions are reviewed before any treatment, the way a physician would in any other setting.

  • Genuine, traceable products. Treatments use products from authorized distributors, with lot numbers recorded in your chart.

  • Whole-person care. As an internist, Dr. Boican looks at how skin, weight, hormones and energy connect, not just one concern in isolation.

Local and personal. SculptMaxx MD is a physician-owned practice at 1058 N Tamiami Trail, Suite 122, Sarasota, FL 34236. You see the same doctor at every visit.

Advanced aesthetic training. Dr. Boican has completed specialized training in botulinum toxin and dermal filler injection (Aesthetic Medical Educators Training, Inc.), Dermapen 4™ microneedling (DP Derm), and Sculptra® & Radiesse® (Empire Medical Training).
