Hormone replacement therapy for women in Sarasota, guided by labs and a physician

Hot flashes that wake you at night. Brain fog, low energy, weight that settles around the middle, a drive that has faded. These changes are common in midlife, and they are often dismissed as "just aging." Hormone changes are frequently part of the picture, and they can be evaluated and treated.

At SculptMaxx MD, Dr. Alice Boican, a board-certified internist, offers individualized hormone therapy for women, based on your symptoms, your lab results and your overall health.

What is bioidentical hormone therapy?

"Bioidentical" hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones your body makes, such as estradiol and progesterone. We offer creams and oral dosing.

Several bioidentical hormones are available as FDA-approved medications. Custom-compounded versions also exist for patients with specific needs. Dr. Boican will explain the difference and recommend what fits you.

Hormone therapy for women

During perimenopause and menopause, estrogen and progesterone levels decline and fluctuate. Hormone therapy may help with:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Sleep disruption

  • Vaginal dryness and discomfort

  • Mood changes and irritability

  • Reduced sex drive

  • Protecting bone density

Hormone therapy is generally appropriate for women with symptoms who are younger than 60 or within 10 years of menopause and have no contraindications. Testosterone may be added if you are diagnosed with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD); this use is off-label, because no testosterone product is FDA-approved for women in the U.S.

What to expect

  1. Consultation. A detailed review of symptoms, medical and family history, and medications.

  2. Lab work. Hormone levels plus the safety labs that go with them, such as complete blood count, liver function, lipid panel, SHBG and testosterone LC-MS/MS, if the addition of testosterone is indicated for treatment.

  3. Individual plan. The lowest effective dose in the form that suits your life.

  4. Monitoring. Follow-up visits and repeat labs to check symptoms, levels and safety, adjusting as needed. Some women will require more frequent monitoring depending on their individual needs and the medications prescribed.

Pricing

Hormone therapy is self-pay; SculptMaxx MD does not bill insurance. Your consultation and customized prescription are $400. Your prescription is tailored to you and sent directly to a participating pharmacy. If you are prescribed estrogen and progesterone, a follow-up visit at six weeks is recommended. If testosterone is also prescribed, a follow-up with labs at three weeks is required. Follow-up visits, including monitoring and dose adjustment, are $180 each. Lab fees are separate.

Why choose Dr. Boican for hormone therapy

Hormone therapy affects the whole body, including the heart, blood, breasts, reproductive organs and bones. As an internist, Dr. Boican weighs benefits and risks in the context of your full health picture, and monitors with labs rather than guesswork.

Your treatment is performed by a physician, not delegated. At SculptMaxx MD, Dr. Alice Boican personally evaluates every patient and performs every treatment. She is a board-certified internal medicine physician (American Board of Internal Medicine), licensed in Florida, and completed her residency at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital. She also practices hospital medicine, caring for patients whose health depends on careful judgment and precise dosing.

What that means for you:

  • A medical history that is actually read and understood. Medications, conditions and past reactions are reviewed before any treatment, the way a physician would in any other setting.

  • Genuine, traceable products. Treatments use products from authorized distributors, with lot numbers recorded in your chart.

  • Whole-person care. As an internist, Dr. Boican looks at how skin, weight, hormones and energy connect, not just one concern in isolation.

Local and personal. SculptMaxx MD is a physician-owned practice at 1058 N Tamiami Trail, Suite 122, Sarasota, FL 34236. You see the same doctor at every visit.

Advanced aesthetic training. Dr. Boican has completed specialized training in botulinum toxin and dermal filler injection (Aesthetic Medical Educators Training, Inc.), Dermapen 4™ microneedling (DP Derm), and Sculptra® & Radiesse® (Empire Medical Training).

Hormone Therapy FAQs

Are bioidentical hormones safer than other hormones?

Bioidentical and non-bioidentical hormones both have benefits and risks. The right choice depends on your health. Dr. Boican discusses these openly.

How soon will I feel better?

Many patients notice changes within a few weeks. Full effects can take two to three months.

Do I need labs?

Yes. Labs guide safe dosing and monitoring for every patient.

Who should not use hormone therapy?

Hormone therapy is not appropriate if you have a current or past history of breast cancer or another estrogen-dependent cancer, stroke or TIA, blood clots (DVT or pulmonary embolism), heart attack or coronary artery disease, active liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or if you are pregnant. Your full history, including smoking and family history, is reviewed carefully.
